So let’s find out what malted bread tastes like!

What is malt?

Malt is a type of sugar made from crushed barley. The malted barley is cooked with warm ish water and allowed to sprout.

The word “malt” comes from the Latin term for barley – malum. In fact, the Romans used barley as their primary grain crop because they believed it was easier to grow than wheat.

Non-diastatic malt is made from germinated grains such as wheat or barley. The process involves soaking the seeds for several days to make them sprout.

This causes enzymes inside the seed to break down carbohydrates into simple sugars called glucose. These are then fermented with yeast until they become alcohol.

The resulting liquid is known as worth, which contains all the nutrients needed by yeasts to produce beer.

Is malted flour healthy?

Yes, malted flour can be considered healthy if you eat it in moderation. However, some studies have shown that eating too much malted flour may cause digestive problems.

In addition, malted flour doesn’t contain any fibre so it won’t help keep your gut bacteria balanced.

This means that consuming large amounts of malted flour could lead to bloating, gas and other gastrointestinal issues.

However, this isn’t true for everyone. Some people don’t experience these side effects when they consume malted flour.

How to make malted bread?

In this guide, I will show you the steps to make malted bread.

Ingredients for 1 loaf of malted bread:

  • 2 cups all purpose white bread flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk

Bread recipes:

Step 1 – In a large bowl combine your dry ingredients together. Make sure you mix them well so they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Step 2 – Add in melted butter and eggs into the dry mixture. Mix until combined.

Step 3 – Slowly add milk while mixing at low speed. The dough should come together easily once everything is mixed properly. If not, then just keep adding more milk until it comes together nicely.

Step 4 – Once the dough forms into a ball shape flatten it slightly using your hands or rolling pin. This step makes the dough easier to roll later on when shaping it into loaves.

Step 5 – Cover the dough loosely with plastic wrap and allow it to rest at warm room temperature or perfect temperature for 30 minutes.

Step 6 – After resting time remove from fridge and preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 7 – Roll out dough onto parchment paper about 12 inches long by 8 inches wide. You can use any size pan as long as it’s big enough to fit the rolled out dough without touching sides.

Step 8 – Cut the rolled out dough into desired shapes such as squares, rectangles, etc. I used my pizza cutter to cut mine into triangles.

Step 9 – Bake each piece of dough for 20-25 minutes depending on how thick your pieces were before cutting. Check every 10 minutes after 15 minutes.

Step 10 – Remove baked bread from oven for baking and place on cooling rack. Allow the piece of bread dough to cool completely before serving.

Malt-Infused water directions:

This recipe calls for one gallon of lukewarm water.

Baking instruction:

  • To make this drink, you need to infuse the loaf with water with homemade malt yield extract.
  •  You do this by hot boiling water first and letting it sit overnight. Then strain the liquid through cheesecloth and discard solids.
  • The next day, pour the strained liquid back into the pot and bring it up to boil again. Let it simmer for another hour. Strain the liquid again and store in airtight container in refrigerator.
  • To serve, simply stir in ice cubes and enjoy!

The basics of malt and how it affects your beer

Malting is the process by which barley, wheat or other grains are converted into malt for brewing beer. This article will explain what malting means and how it affects your beer.

The first step to making a good quality brew is selecting the right grain. You want something that has been grown with no pesticides used on them.

If you can’t find organic then at least look for non-GMO varieties. The second thing you should consider is whether you want light or dark malt.

Light malt contains less colour than darker types but more nuanced flavour. Darker malty flavour beers have stronger nutty flavour, so they’re better suited to stouts and porters.

Once you’ve selected your grain, there are still some things you’ll need to know about malting.
