- 3 cups lukewarm water
- ¾ cup molasses
- ½ cup shortening
- 4 eggs
- 6 cups unbleached white bread flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Combine the first four ingredients in a medium saucepan.
- Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, 20 minutes or until thickened slightly. Cool completely.
- Prepare Amish Friendship Bread Starter recipe following instructions on the back of the box. When cool enough to handle, transfer to a large bowl.
- Add cooled liquid mixture and beaten egg yolks. Beat well.
